Alder Cones

Alder cones are the catkins of black alder trees (Alnus glutinosa). These trees naturally occur in Europe but are also an introduced species in many parts of the United Stated and Canada.

Alder Cones are perfect for shrimp and other acidic loving animals. The tannic and humic acids naturally released by the amazing SunGrow Alder Cones create an ideal aquatic living environment for acidic loving marine life such as shrimp, bettas, and cichlids.

They also make great hiding places for fry and help to gently lower pH if needed. All in all, shrimp just love alder cones. If you use them in your tank expect some shrimp on there at all times!

Alder cones are very similar to Indian Almond Leaves and act in a similar way. The cones are beneficial to shrimp, bettas, Apistogramma, and Corydoras species for their healing properties and ability to lower the pH.
